Week 15 - 12 Mile Run

This week was considered the preview into race day! We ran 12 miles (and the half marathon is 13.1 miles). It was exciting, yet tough. This was the first time in a while that we all ran together (S.Cimone, Marie, PJ, and Ennis). It was nice having all of us being there motivating each other throughout the run. GO TEAM!

Week 13 - Long Beach TNT Team

This past weekend, I (S.Cimone) got a change of pace and trained with the Long Beach TNT team. They were a very welcoming and supportive team! We completed a 8 mile hill run. OMG...you want to talk about sore legs! It was a huge challenge, but a great feeling to complete a run that intense. Check out the pictures below.

Week Twelve

I can't even believe we are on weeke 12! It seems so long ago when we started with this team! Today I, Marie, ran 9 miles at 7 am! We met at a new location at Hick's Canyon Park in Irvine! I would have to say that this has been my best week thus far! David just bought me a Garmin, which is this really cool watch! It calculates pace, distance, miles, calories, etc. The cool thing I used it for at practice was running at a 5:1 interval. 5 minutes running and then 1 minute walking. It definitely gave me a lot more energy! It would alert me when it was time to walk for one minute and then run again for five. I ran with my buddies Jenee and Mindie and we did so great! Although, the last 3 miles was a killer! We kept eachother motivated the whole time! The course was pretty tough because half of the course was up hill! I hate hills, but its great for training! Oh and the weather was so beautiful!

Next week 10 miles! Here we go!

Week 11- 90 minute timed run

So this Saturday was our 90 minute timed run (45 minutes out, 45 minutes back). We had three locations to choose from this week: Yorba Linda Regional Park, Hunington Beach, and Laguna. I chose to run with a beautiful scenery in Hunington Beach! There were only a few of us there, so I thought that I would just run by myself because everyone had a different pace. Our starting line was at Lake Park off 11th Street and Main. We're off running on Main, cross over to the beach and run on PCH the whole way. As I was running I found 4 girls that I thought were running the same pace as I, which is about 11-12 minute mile. I tried to keep up with them so I had people to run with. They were running a 5:1, which is 5 minutes running and 1 minute walk. Well I loved it! I usually just try to run the whole way, but I found this to be even better. They all had watches that give you your time, pace, and miles. So not only did I have more energy, but I found out that we were running a 10:37 minute mile! Now that's fast for me!

So in 45 minutes, I ran 3.75 miles and then turned around and headed back to the park! I finished 7.5 miles in 1hr 30 mins! I'm working hard! Now let's donate!

Week 10 - 7 Miles

So I, Marie, missed week 9 because I took a little mini vacay to DC, NY, and Philly with my husband. It definitely gave me a chance to rest my legs and body from all the weeks of running.

So week 10- we met at our usual location in Irvine. The half marathoners were scheduled to do 7 miles! I ran with my buddy, Jenee Jimenez and felt really strong. I was really nervous coming back for my run because I didn't run for a whole week while I was on vacation. So doing 7 miles was scary! To my surprise, I felt really good and strong! I shocked myself how good I felt! It most likely was because I rested for the full week! What a difference it made!

Week Eight - 7 Miles

What a day for me, Marie! Today was our 7 mile run and it was a beautiful, sunny morning! We met at the same location, Irvine Heritage Park. Just as we were getting use to the trail we've been running for the last 7 weeks, it changes on us. Since we are running longer miles our trail is now along the riverbed! Well I was alone this morning as some of my normal running buddies were not at practice. Pam has been in so much pain, it hurt her to walk. Cimone couldn't make practice, but was still able to run her miles by the beach.

I didn't do as well during my mid-week runs, so by today I was really struggling. I pushed and pushed through. About 2 1/2 miles through the run, our coach Paul along with his cute little boys were at the water stop with gatorade, water, pretzels, etc. He wasn't running this morning because he was going to be running the full LA Marathon the next day, but it was nice to see him at the water stop. I continue to run trying to keep up with some of my teammates and finally got to the turn around post! Oh I was so happy to see that mark! Our full marathoners were doing 10 miles that day, so some had to keep going for another mile and a half. As I turned around I waved goodbye to our full marathoners and encouraged them to keep going. I was so happy I heading back!

So again I pushed through the next 3 1/2 miles to get back to the park. I hit the finish line in
1 hour 25 minutes! I was so happy and so sore at the same time! Never would I have ever run 7 miles for fun! Another big mile accomplished! Donations are definitely worth it! I'm working hard for the money! Please support my efforts and DONATE TODAY!

Week 6 - 6 Miles!

March 13, 2010
We met at 7:00 am at Irvine Heritage Park. It was a gorgeous day in Irvine, Ca! We are so lucky to have such great weather and it should only get better from here! Our miles are going to be increasing and today was a split between the Full marathoners and the half marathoners. We had to run 6 miles, where the full marathoners ran their 8 miles!

We started the morning with announcements and was given an injury prevention clinic. This will be our last clinic of the season! They talked about buying and running with fuel belts, which I feel will bother me when I start running. I just don't think I can run with things around my waist, but I know it will be helpful in the longer miles! So I'll be going to Road Runners to check some out. After the clinic, we did our morning stretches and then we were off!

For me, Marie, was able to beat my time by 5 minutes. Last time we ran 6 miles in the pouring rain and took me 1 hr 15 mins. This time with the beautiful sunny skies, I came it at 1 hr 10 mins! I felt I had a good pace going on and was working on my breathing and posture! Found a friend that was at the same time pace as me and had a good time running with her.

Great job Pam and Ennis! Keep it up!

Beating my time is a great accomplishment! Help support my efforts! Donate today! Every little bit counts!

Week 5 - 60 Minutes Timed Run!

Oh what a beautiful day it was on Saturday, March 6th! Forecast predicted that there was going to be rain AGAIN this weekend! Well we just beat it! We started off the morning meeting at Irvine Heritage Park at 7:30am with all the different Team in Training teams (marathon, triathlon, and cycle teams)! We had our morning announcements along with a guest speaker telling us about his journey with cancer. What an amazing guy! It reminds us what we're doing with Team in Training is really making a difference!

So we were scheduled to do 60 mins timed run (30 mins. out, 30 mins back). For me, Marie, I can already feel a difference in my running. My strides, my muscles, my endurance is really building! I've never been a runner in my life, so this is a HUGE accomplishment for me. I just try and remind myself why I am really do this. I'm doing this for those who are battling cancer, especially for my mother.

There was no rain in site while we were out for our run and I accomplished 5 1/2 miles in the 60 minutes we were running. Now that deserves some donations! Don't you think!?! Donate today, $5. $10, $15! It doesn't take much! Check back weekly!

Week 4 - Six Miles!

Well...we made it through the storm (literally)! Mother nature was not our friend this past weekend, but we pushed through it and completed our 6 miles! It was raining so hard and the wind was out of control. Miles 1 to 3 were like taking a shower with our clothes on (LOL), miles 3 -6 the rain stopped, but running in soaking wet clothes and shoes was not easy! Through it all, we completed strong. One step closer to 13.1 miles...woo hoo!

Week 3 - Four Miles

This week, thus far, was the most challenging for me (S.Cimone). We were back at Heritage Park in Irvine and ran 4 miles. I ran with Marie the entire way and keep a good pace and decent form. We completed 4 miles in about 48 minutes! In addition to the 4 mile run, TNT hosted a clothing and stretching workshop. We learning all of the proper clothing we should utilize as we embark on longer runs (Main Lesson I learned: Cotton is NOT your friend! lol). Melissa (one of our coaches) lead a stretching workshop that highlighted exercises for many trouble spots that runners have (hamstrings, hips, and knees). A day filled with information and triumph. GO TEAM!

Week 2 - Three Miles

In Week 2 we upped ourselves by 1 mile, completing a total of three miles. We had a shoe clinic that morning at Roadrunner Sports so instead of our normal run in Irvine, we ran through the streets of Costa Mesa. It was much warmer that day so we were all sweating! LOL. Time to bust out the sunblock! So not trying to burn out there!

Week 1 - Two Miles

Of course with our luck, we started our first training session off with a BANG! We had a two mile run which isn't too bad, but of course, it is POURING! Of all the days that it could rain, it had to be at 7:30am on Saturday 2/6 in Irvine. We thought that the rain would keep a lot of people at home but we were surprisingly mistaken. There were about 50 people that still came out to run that morning, including us, and we ran through the rain and mud without hestitation. Well, there was a little hestitation, but we still did it!

Our Team In Training Adventures!

We (Marie, S. Cimone, Ennis, and Pamela) have all made a commitment to ourselves, each other, and the thousands of individuals battling blood cancers all over the country by participating in the San Diego Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon this June. Each of us is raising money and awareness to help find a cure for these diseases that people are fighting everday. Feel free to follow our blog to see how we are doing as we engulf on this 16 week training season and cross the finish line for our first ever endurance event.
